Abstract
Objective: To analyze the findings on control and detection of cancer of cervix in Santa Marta, Colombia during 2005. Material and methods: The information was obtained by compiling the monthly registers of the Cytology Laboratory E.S.E. Alejandro Prospero Reverend in Santa Marta during 2005. The findings were recorded in a Excel file and them assessed through EPIINEO program 2002. Results: During 2005 16683 cytologies were carried out. 552 were misperformed (3,3%) 534 alterated (3,2%), 340 infected with Human Papilloma Virus (H.P.V.) 111 Low grade squamous intraepitelial lesion (LSIL)(0,67%), 63 High grade squamous intraepitelial lesion (HSIL)(0,38%) 15 invasive cancer of the cervix (89X100.000). In Mache- te and Guachaca villages the average of H.P.V. infection was twice as much compared to the rest of them. Conclusions: This analysis enables us to identify the weaknesses and strengths of the coverage in the control and detection of cervix cancer program.
