Abstract

Mentoring is understood as a procedure to increase skills and competencies, improving the entrepreneurial mentality in entrepreneurs. This article seeks to explore, analyze and identify the factors that influence business development during mentoring, in entrepreneurship. Through a systematic review of the literature (in Web of Science®) and citation network analysis, the most relevant studies on the subject were selected. The results were filtered through Tree of Science creating the network of citations with the references found; then, the corresponding reading analysis of the resulting bibliography was made. There are three activities in mentoring that influence business results. First, actions from the mentor that allow the apprentice to improve skills and competencies. Second, aligning business behavior models with the trainees' personality profiles enables them to accomplish challenging tasks related to entrepreneurship. Third, the factors that originate in the context of the mentor-apprentice relationship are significant and influence the entrepreneur's ability to carry out business tasks and duties. Identifying these activities contributes to the design of mentoring programs to promote appropriate mentor-mentee dyads.
