Abstract

This review describes the effects of the magnetic field on the growth and yield of cultivated plants, it is based on references obtained from multiple databases such as Springer, Science Direct, Scielo, ResearchGate, EBSCO, and Google Scholar, as descriptors were used the terms: magnetic treatment, crop production, magnetically treated water and seed germination. The introduction offers a brief description of the characteristics of the earth's magnetic field, its units of measurement and a justification of the interest in studying the effects of the magnetic field on cultivated plants. The effect of direct exposure of the seeds of different crop species to static and / or alternating magnetic fields in relation to germination and various parameters of growth and yield is then discussed. The positive effect of the treatment with magnetic fields on the tolerance of plants to the negative effects generated by abiotic stress is also explored. Finally, the effects of the treatment with magnetically treated water are discussed. It is concluded that the treatment with magnetic fields has beneficial effects for the germination of the seeds, increases the growth and development of the plants, and can alleviate the negative effects caused by some types of abiotic stress, so the magnetic treatments could be implemented with the aim of improving the growth and yield of some crops.
