Mass surveillance technologies and the right to privacy: when the need for security threatens fundamental rights

Abstract

This article aims to analyse the current context under which human rights are being developed with the presence of mass surveillance by the most developed countries in the world. With the main objective of the  development of a legal study of how mass surveillance has a direct impact on fundamental rights, such as privacy. On the other hand, the issues of the use of personal data in a massive way and the lack of protection of individuals against the treatment of personal data will also be addressed, the legal ethical consequences of the use of mass surveillance, as it violates fundamental rights and finally, as governments exercise it indiscriminately.
