The international environment within the coffee industry: a literature review of its productivity and competitiveness
Contenido principal del artículo
Resumen
Literature reviews concerning the competitiveness and productivity of the coffee international environment are scarce. Therefore, this literature review explores and analyzes various perspectives of productivity and competitiveness within the coffee industry within the Americas, Asia, and Africa. We conducted a methodological approach based on the standards of the PRISMA guide for systematic reviews and meta-analysis to focus the search, screening, and selection of literature related to the object of study. We used national and international reports to show the productive and competitive behavior of various regions of the world. For all regions of the coffee sector, productivity is an attribute of uncertainty associated with the land area and the number of beans produced that go on sale. Variables such as land size, agricultural practices, price, costs, relationships, sociodemographic characteristics, and the supply chain are determinants of productive performance. On the other hand, the adoption of technology, innovation, education, quality, and associativity are the attributes that would facilitate competitiveness in the long term. This review contributes to the theoretical understanding of productivity and competitiveness within the coffee sector internationally.
